Weber Shandwick announced today that Jye Smith has been appointed Asia Pacific head of Mediaco, the agency’s content creation and distribution unit. The appointment is effective immediately.

As part of his new role, Smith will oversee all Mediaco activity for the firm in Asia Pacific, including driving new business, expanding key client relationships, and building Weber Shandwick’s Mediaco offering throughout the region. He continues to report into Jon Wade, head of Digital, Asia Pacific.

In his previous role as vice-president, Digital, Smith helped to introduce both Mediaco and FireBell – Weber Shandwick’s crisis communications tool – to Asia Pacific, delivering significant growth for the Digital practice. He was most recently named as one of Campaign Asia-Pacific’s 40 Faces to Watch.

“Mediaco has gained strong traction with clients and new business prospects since its launch in August,” said Wade. “Jye, as our leading digital strategist in the region, is more than equipped to take on the leadership of this fast expanding division. He has the ability to make complex digital subjects simple and to see things always from a client point of view.”

Named APAC Digital Consultancy of the Year by The Holmes Report, the scaling up of Weber Shandwick’s digital operations has accelerated to support rapid growth fuelled by Mediaco and the agency’s digital studios in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India and Singapore.
